George Edmundson is on his way to Derby County with a view to signing a loan deal this month.

The Rangers defender has struggled for game time this season, having not played for the Ibrox first-team since September, his only appearance this term.

Steven Gerrard has green-lit a move for the centre-half to join Wayne Rooney at Pride Park and he is now likely to join for six months to compete with Curtis Davies, Matthew Clarke and Andre Wisdom.

Edmundson's game time at the Light Blues has been severely limited with Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and Leon Balogun ahead of him in the pecking order.

His chances were limited further after a suspension for breaking Covid-19 protocols along with teammate Jordan Jones who has also been sent out on loan to Sunderland in League One.

The Edmundson deal comes as Rangers' transfer dealings look to be almost finished for the window after Gerrard sealed pre-contracts for Aberdeen's Scott Wright, Jack Simpson of Bournemouth. Nnamdi Ofoborh, also of the Cherries, looks ready to join his pal in Glasgow.

Rangers could look to make these deals permanent this window, with midnight the deadline.
